The Poughkeepsie Children’s Cabinet (PCC) exists to create and coordinate a cradle-to-career continuum of services, supports, and opportunities that ensures every child can thrive in Poughkeepsie regardless of race, ethnicity, poverty, or circumstance. The Cabinet believes that a child’s zip code should not limit their success. The PCC seeks to cultivate a critical mass of youth, civic leaders, and institutions that are committed to ending intergenerational poverty by placing all Poughkeepsie’s children on pathways to socioeconomic mobility.
Key Programs:
- Cradle-to-Career Continuum – the core collective impact program of the Cabinet brings youth-serving organizations together to collectively work toward youth and family success and economic mobility. This program includes the development of a Community Dashboard to measure outcomes.
- Community Champions – an outreach program in collaboration with the Poughkeepsie City School District’s Full-Service Community Schools department, through which community members, as “Champions”, will connect parents of children 0-3 to socio-emotional, cognitive, literacy, and social resources.
- Strategic Financing – identifying both current and potential funding sources for youth programs, as well as building cost-models that reflect the cost of quality programming, with the goal of scaling fully funded, five day per week out-of-schooltime programs.
- Poughkeepsie Promise City Initiative – working directly with Dutchess County, City of Poughkeepsie, Poughkeepsie City School District, and private philanthropy to align data-sharing and funding mechanisms for greater impact in youth services.
