The Regional Food Bank works with a network of food pantries and other feeding programs to alleviate hunger, prevent food waste, and nourish communities in 23 New York counties, from Rockland in the lower Hudson Valley to the Canadian border. The Food Bank is addressing the ever-increasing impacts of food insecurity from two main distribution centers: one in Albany County, and a new 50,000 square foot facility in Montgomery, Orange County.
Key Programs:
- Food Distribution – receiving, purchasing, storing, and distributing food to over 1,000 partner agencies, about 400 of which are in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Partner agencies pick up food at the distribution center and the Food Bank directly delivers to mass distribution sites and senior housing sites. The Food Bank also distributes hygiene and baby care items.
- Access Programs – school pantry sites, mobile pantries, and backpack programs.
- Nutrition and Health – education and cooking workshops, and partnerships with health care agencies to address chronic health conditions.
- Partner Agency Support – including technical support and funds for equipment and programs.
Dyson Foundation grants in 2024:
- Mid-Hudson Valley member agency support – $50,000
- Capital support for the new Orange County facility – $250,000
- Expanded programs and operations in the Mid-Hudson Valley – $500,000 over 3 years
