Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh is a local affiliate of the global nonprofit housing organization that focuses on creating first time homeownership. Since 1999, it has built over 100 homes in Newburgh, one of the most distressed urban areas in the United States and the largest contiguous historic district in New York State.
Key Programs:
- Home Ownership – helping low-income families through every step along the road to owning their own home.
- Home Repair Program – assisting existing low-income homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes due to an inability to pay for needed safety or accessibility repairs.
- ReStore – a home improvement store and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, building materials, and appliances at a fraction of the retail price while creating living wage jobs and saving hundreds of thousands of items from landfills annually.
Dyson Foundation grants in 2024:
- General Operating Support – $225,000 over 3 years
- Home Repair Support – $25,000 towards repair and maintenance expenses to help existing homeowners stay in their homes
- Management Assistance Program Mini-Grant – $10,000 towards the development of a planned giving program
