Planned Parenthood Federation of America
For nearly 100 years, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) has worked to improve women's health and safety, prevent unintended pregnancies, and advance the right and ability of individuals and families to make informed and responsible choices. PPFA provides education, information, and services to more than 5 million women, men, and adolescents worldwide, including 3 million receiving care at 750 Planned Parenthood health centers nationally.
These health centers provide a range of health care and more than 90% is preventive, primary care. This helps prevent unintended pregnancies through contraception, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections through testing and treatment, and screen for cervical and other cancers. Of the nearly 3 million clients PPFA serves annually, more than 75% report incomes at or below 150% of the federal poverty level and more than half are less than 24 years of age.
The Dyson Foundation continues to provide significant multi-year general operating support to PPFA for advocacy and public education at the national level. PPFA continues to focus on defending access to reproductive health services and expanding access to care by applying new technologies such as electronic medical records, social media, and SMS (texting) technology. Dyson Foundation funding does not support the Planned Parenthood Action Fund or its political action committee.
The Dyson Foundation’s funding for PPFA under the Public Policy and Health & Safety Net funding themes demonstrates its bold leadership stance on national reproductive health policy, and its ongoing concern for funding quality health care access for low-income and vulnerable populations.
